Assaggi (2006)

For real, authentic Italian, try Assagi (which means Taste) in Illovo, opposite the Thrupps Centre. Pictured here is the tender veal. Really tasty cuisine, great atmosphere (created mainly by the display kitchen), a limited yet selective wine list (including a wine with a great name - Iona) and friendly staff separate this restaurant from many others. unfortunately so do the prices however. Definitely worth a visit. If you need a haircut, George & Andrew @ Colonia Barber shop are keeping the old barber traditions and authentic experiences alive

Cranks (2006)

More than just good food - a meal at Cranks in Rosebank is an experience. Tasty authentic Thai cuisine at very reasonable prices, large portions and interesting decor (that should maybe hold a PG rating), combined with really entertaining hosts make it no wonder that Cranks has become an institution in Johannesburg that's been around for 22 years! There are some great dishes that aren't on the menu, but are prepared especially for you... CAUTION: the chilli has a pretty serious kick...

Deluxe (2006)

The famous chicken prego roll at Deluxe, in the trendy 44 Stanley Avenue complex is awesome. You'll only find natural and happily grown ingredients at this spot. There's an organic fair on every Saturday morning for all those that are interested in that kind of vibe.

Fishmonger - Rivonia (2006)

At the Fishmonger in Rivonia, this is the Prawn Curry. This curry is not too spicy but very tasty. Their Calamari is the best Value for money on their menu and its amazing! Oh, lastly, you need to book as they are always full. Please call DimitrIon to help you book. Ion: 083 256 7219

Georges on 4th (2006)

The speciality of thehouse is the lamb shank that seems to fall off the bone. Who's house you ask? George's on 4th in Parkhurst. Great restaurant, especially on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Sidewalk dining at its best.

Lapa Fo (2006)

One of the best pizza's in town can be found at the trendy, minimalistic restaurant/pizzeria Lapa Fo. pictured here is one of their vegeterian pizza's - reasonably priced & can satisfy two hungers! As previously mentioned on dimitrion, they also do great breakfasts...

One of the best full English breakfast I have had. The bacon was done perfectly crspy the eggs (the first place I have seen that garnishes their eggs) and the health bread made it yummy. This can be found at: Lapa Flo(134a Bhertzgav,Emmarentia, Johannesburg), a trendy but plain coffee/restaurant place. The place feels a lot like having breakfast in Cape Town without the sea.

Palms (2006)

Enjoy a good meal before partying the night away at the Palms in Sandton. Pictured here is the Haloumi starter, although it could pass for a main course - only serious cheese lovers will finish this one. Also DIMITRION.com TIP: Reserve for Dinner and you save on R100 entrance fee and the long ques on Saturdays.
